OkSherlock is a Web platform for exploring insights about the Italian community of YouTube. YouTube is continuously changing its shape, therefore exploring the community of Italian video creators may still be complicated due to current shortcomings of YouTube UI. OkSherlock algorithms explore YouTube on an hourly basis to get live data about new videos and channels activity. Moreover, the platform provides an extensive analytical experience for swimming in the sea of YouTube data.
Facts & figures
I officially launched OkSherlock in 2016 as a personal project (not really for business but for fun!). The platform is completely Web-based and it is backed by Django. Several algorithms regularly explore YouTube data and consume official APIs in order to update statistics and discover new contents. YouTube snapshots are processed and saved as ad hoc JSON documents in MongoDB. Custom indexing facilitates data retrieval and text search.
